“Dear friends, volunteers and animal lovers!

This message is a cry for help!

This message is about the cruelty of our government!

This message is about the difficult situation of animal welfare in our “European Country”!

If You are reading this message, it means you care and are not indifferent with what is going on in our shelter. Our story began almost one year ago when we originally opened our shelter in Bachoi. At the beginning it was very hard, sometimes we felt hopeless, but we remained determined, worked hard, and remained positive that everything could be better for these homeless animals. We had a hope that despite of all difficulties and with your help we could move on.

Our first major setback came as a shock when someone decided that they no longer wanted us to be in Bachoi, so they raised the rent on the land to 1000 euro per month, which is a huge amount of money for us. Which they knew that we could not afford. Our center exists solely on the donations of the people like you who care for the welfare of animals.

We had to look for a new location for our Shelter. It took a lot of effort. We were looking everywhere outside the city, and finally we found an old farm in the village of Colonita that had not been in use for many years which was far from the houses or people. So we decided to rent it. We could not have been happier to finally have a place where we can move our dogs and cats. There is no electricity and no running water but none of that mattered, we were going to fix it step by step. At least that was the plan. Unfortunately there is someone that does not like us in Colonita. It’s with even less fortune that the person without an ounce of care for for the welfare of these animals Anjela Zaporojan also happens to be mayor of Colonita. She wants to get rid of us all of the sudden, because she has her own interest on the land in front of the shelter and the dogs being near that land could pose an inconvenience to her. She has fabricated reasons to justify why the shelter must go. First of all she said we have no documents, and that one of or our dogs bit someone. This is not true! We have all the necessary documents, including the authorization of sanitary epidemiological services (health department)

We have tried to talk to her and have offered to serialize the homeless animals that are in Colonita and near by vicinity. Her response was that she will personally buy the bullets for shooting the dogs. How is it even possible to have a civilized discussion with such a cruel person? What kind of “European Country” are we are if the people who are in power will not hesitate in expressing their desire to kill puppies?

A few days ago Angela Zaporozhan, the Mayor of Colonita sent a letter to Dorin Chirtoaca, Mayor of Chisinau ( who is also originally from Colonita). Together they have given us 10 days to move all the dogs, otherwise they have threatened that they will shoot them all.

At this moment we have 140 dogs in the shelter. Those include puppies, adult, sick and injured dogs. It is impossible for us to move in ten days, it is also not possible to find homes for all of them or to move them to another shelters which are also completely full as always. We can not just set these animals loose onto the street in winter as that would be a certain death for the majority of these animals.

Our situation was made even harder as we only have enough water left in our cistern for one day. All the services in Colonita have been told not to make deliveries to the shelter or they will face repercussions by the “Mayor”.

This is an attempt to to kill the dogs by depriving them of food an water even if we were able to find a place to relocate them all withing ten days.

We are begging you all for any help that you can provide.

We are desperately in need of sponsors able to provide any financial support.

In the next message we will write about our financial affairs and about the work that needs to be done

We also are in need and ask for physical help at the shelter as well.

Thank you to all people who have helped us up until now.

We look forward to your support.

Thank you ALL so much.”

Since this post the mayor has now given ‘Isle of Hope’ dog shelter until May 1st to find a new home – which though is a huge improvement to the original 10 day deadline, it still doesn’t give them much time to find a serious place to relocate the shelter and get into a decent shape before moving the dogs there. The shelter is home to around 150 dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages and relocating them will be a big and stressful operation – kind donations in aiding the process would be grateful accepted either through paypal to nikolai@bosenko.net or through webmoney using the ID 474732331365. You can also get more information and contact details for the shelter through their facebook profile, a link to which can be found at the top of the page.

Thank you for reading.

Featured Dog : Ben / ушка

It really pleases me to finally be able to start writing about our dogs. Every week I would like to introduce at least one of our dogs with the hope of being able to find a new home for them.

Ben Chilling Out In The Sun

Our dog this week is ушка (Ooshka)in Russian, or Ben in English. Ben really is a great dog and we all are very fond of him, that’s why we have chosen him as our first ‘featured dog’ and we are very eager to find him a great home with a loving family. Sadly, Ben has been living at the LIVE shelter for as long as I have been working there – which is almost 6 months, and unless we take action like this then his chances of leaving the shelter for a better place are slim.

However, a more charming dog you will struggle to find… Ben is very outgoing and friendly, he really loves to play – he is never happier than when we are throwing a ball for him.  He even brings the ball back to you sometimes, as you can see from this video. We have also been training him to walk on a leash, something that many of our dogs have never experienced before and they have trouble with – Ben however has taken to it exceptionally well and now looks forward to his walkies.

If you are interested in finding out more information about Ben / ушка then please get in touch with us at the LIVE TNR shelter. You can send an email to StraydogsMD@gmail.com or you can call Natasha on +373 (0)79989969.

Old cancer-stricken pitbull abandoned by her owners at stray dogs slaugherhouse

This beautiful old lady is called Via, she’s a pitbull that taken to Necropolis by her owners.

For those of you who do not know it, Necropolis is the HQ of the Chisinau city pest control service, responsible for killing hundreds of Moldovan street dogs every month. Instead of humane euthanasia, Moldovan stray dogs are risking a terrible fate every day – the weapons of choice of Necropolis’ workers are death by metal bar to the head or poison, when it comes to strays that wouldn’t approach the dog snatchers. Sometimes, their victims aren’t just strays – pets may pick up poisoned food during walks and die in terrible agony.

Via’s owners have given her a death sentence, because according to them she has grown old, but still eats a lot. Yes, you read correctly. The malnourished, old, cancer-stricken dog was abandoned to her death because she eats too much. These are the exact words that the “Live” shelter workers heard when they came to her rescue.

Unfortunately, “Live” shelter is currently overcrowded, so Via is forced to live by the gate in literally one square meter of personal space.

Via is severely malnourished and has several breast tumors, as you can see on the photo. We are trying to raise funds to give this old girl a chance and maybe even find her a loving family. She is very tender and social, however, unfortunately, due to the fact that she’s a pitt adoption may be difficult.

Aside from surgery and medication, she will be needing a personal kennel while she stays at “Live”. Via deserves to spend her twilight years healthy, well-fed and in peace, so please help us make it happen!

Even the smallest contribution would be most welcome. You can send your donations through PayPal to fomsuk@hotmail.com, Friends of Moldovan Strays charity helping ALGA and the Moldovan shelters to fundraise for a great cause.
