How you can help (a brief survey of our needs)

What are our needs and how can your donations help? Here’s a short post to give you a brief outline of our current situation, extra photographs and additional reports, daily cost estimates and extra projects details are to follow shortly.

One of the most needy shelters under our supervision is called Live. The shelter currently has almost 200 dogs in its care, all of them receive only a single meal per day, due to the fact that we simply cannot afford to buy more food. At times, the situation turns into drastic calls for help when the food runs out.

Aside from the fact that the dogs are underfed, a lot of them need medical treatment and have special needs (take Smiley, for instance…). If funds are available, we aim to neuter the dogs that currently live at the shelter. Unfortunately, we’re still very far off the target of neutering all the dogs living at the shelter, vaccinations also remain beyond our financial means. At the same time, due to postal and customs regulation we currently are not in position to accept meds from abroad, thus all of the supplies have to be purchased locally.

At the same time, the shelter building is in a drastic state – including issues with roofing and absence of windows. The shelter currently has about 20 kennels, all of which are located outdoors. Moldovan winters can be quite harsh, with temperatures getting as down as -20 degrees Celsius, which effectively means that some of the dogs risk frostbite or worse in the coming winter.

Live stands on rented ground – we do not own the land and pay rent every month. This effectively means that the dog shelter can be evicted at any moment.
